Contesa is one of Abruzzo's most celebrated estates, led by Rocco Pasetti with a commitment to expressing the full potential of indigenous varieties from this rugged, sun-drenched region of central Italy. Their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a perennial benchmark — a wine that delivers remarkable depth and character at an approachable price point.
The 2023 vintage in Abruzzo benefited from warm days and cool nights, preserving freshness while building concentration. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the wine opens with an expressive nose of dark cherry, blackberry, dried plum, and violet, with earthy undertones of leather, tobacco, and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palate, it's full-bodied and generous, with plush tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, warming finish.
