Domaine des Buissonnes Cuvée Pierre à Feu Sancerre Blanc 2023
"Pierre à Feu" — French for flint stone — says everything about this wine before the first sip. From Domaine des Buissonnes, a grower rooted in the storied hillsides of Sancerre in France's Loire Valley, this cuvée is a masterclass in the electric tension between ripe Sauvignon Blanc fruit and the region's legendary silex and limestone soils. The 2023 vintage brought warm, sun-drenched days tempered by cool Atlantic nights, yielding grapes of exceptional aromatic intensity and natural freshness.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Pale gold with green highlights and brilliant clarity
- Nose: Vivid aromas of white grapefruit, lemon zest, green apple, and fresh-cut grass, underscored by a distinctive smoky, gunflint minerality
- Palate: Crisp and focused, with flavors of citrus, white peach, and gooseberry framed by mouthwatering acidity and a chalky, stony texture
- Finish: Long and saline, with lingering mineral precision and a whisper of white flowers
Terroir & Winemaking:
Sourced from old-vine Sauvignon Blanc grown on Sancerre's prized silex (flint) soils — the source of the cuvée's name and its signature smoky character. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve purity and freshness, with minimal intervention to let the terroir speak without interruption.
Drinking Window: Enjoy now through 2028. Serve well chilled at 46–50°F.
Perfect Pairings: Oysters, grilled sea bass, goat cheese (chèvre), asparagus, or a simple plateau de fruits de mer.
A wine that tastes like striking two stones together over a summer riverbank — electric, precise, and utterly alive.
