Product Info
Modern elegance meets traditional Barolo craftsmanship.
The 2021 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe represents the accessible, elegant expression of Barolo from one of Piedmont's most innovative and respected estates. Founded in 1972 by Aldo Vajra, the estate has become renowned for combining traditional Barolo winemaking with modern precision and sustainability. 'Albe' (meaning 'dawn' in Italian) captures the fresh, vibrant character of Nebbiolo from multiple vineyard sites across the Barolo zone.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Brilliant garnet with ruby highlights
- Nose: Expressive aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and rose petal, layered with notes of violet, mint, licorice, and subtle spice. Hints of tar, leather, and earthy truffle add classic Barolo complexity
- Palate: Medium to full-bodied with refined tannins and bright acidity. Flavors of sour cherry, cranberry, and red plum are complemented by nuances of tea leaf, dried herbs, and balsamic notes. The wine shows excellent balance between structure and elegance
- Finish: Long and harmonious with lingering notes of red fruit, spice, and a distinctive mineral character reflecting Barolo's calcareous soils
Vineyard & Winemaking:
Albe is a blend from several estate vineyards across the Barolo appellation, creating a wine that captures the essence of the region while remaining approachable. Vinified using traditional methods with extended maceration and aged in large Slavonian oak casks, the wine balances power with finesse and drinkability.
Perfect Pairings: Braised short ribs, mushroom risotto, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, roasted game birds, or truffle pasta.
