Pelissero Nubiola Barbaresco 2020
From the Nubiola vineyard in the heart of Barbaresco, Giorgio Pelissero crafts one of the Langhe's most compelling single-vineyard Nebbiolos — a wine of aristocratic structure, haunting perfume, and the kind of depth that only great terroir and a masterful hand can produce. Barbaresco 2020 was a vintage of exceptional quality: warm and dry with excellent concentration, yet retaining the natural acidity and elegance that define this noble appellation. Nubiola's clay-rich soils and elevated position lend the wine a distinctive mineral tension and aging potential.
Tasting Notes:
- Appearance: Garnet-ruby with orange-brick highlights at the rim — the classic, translucent beauty of mature Nebbiolo
- Nose: Ethereal and complex — dried rose petal, wild cherry, tar, and tobacco open first, followed by notes of leather, dried herbs, licorice, and a whisper of truffle and forest floor
- Palate: Full-bodied yet refined, with Barbaresco's signature firm, grippy tannins now beginning to integrate beautifully. Flavors of red cherry, pomegranate, dried fig, and iron-tinged minerality, framed by vibrant acidity that promises decades of evolution
- Finish: Extraordinarily long and persistent, with lingering notes of rose, spice, and earthy complexity
Terroir & Winemaking:
The Nubiola vineyard sits on Barbaresco's characteristic Tortonian soils — compact blue-grey clay and limestone marl that impart structure, minerality, and longevity to the wine. Pelissero vinifies with traditional Piedmontese methods: extended maceration, aging in large Slavonian oak botti to preserve the grape's purity and allow the terroir to speak without the distraction of new oak.
Drinking Window: Excellent now with decanting, but will reward cellaring through 2040+. Decant for at least 1–2 hours. Serve at 64–68°F.
Perfect Pairings: Brasato al Barolo, white truffle tajarin, roasted lamb, aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, or wild mushroom risotto.
One of Piedmont's great single-vineyard Nebbiolos — a wine of rare beauty, precision, and the unmistakable soul of Barbaresco.
